LAST-MINUTES Tongeren

'Belgium's first city' is one with a very rich past. Tongeren developed as a Gallo-Roman settlement from as early as 15 BC. The story of that glorious past can of course be found in the famous Gallo-Roman Museum, a real attraction.

The impressive statue of Ambiorix is also a proud reference to times gone by, as are some well-preserved fragments of the city walls. Tongeren is of course more than just Gallo-Roman history. Here you will find a beguinage, some beautiful churches, wonderful parks and nature reserves and the largest antique and flea market in the Benelux.

Finally, Tongeren and surrounding areas are known for their delicious watercress.
