LAST-MINUTES Dendermonde
Dendermonde is known as one of the most prominent cities on the Dender. This is a good place to be, especially if you are a bon vivant. Try Dendermonds head meat or a Dendermonde horse sausage - and then wash it down with a Kwak or Tripel Karmeliet, of course.
Once every ten years, the city bursts at the seams during the Ros Beiaard Ommegang: a parade that tells a local version of the saga of the Four Heemskinderen. But even in the years in between there is always something to do in Dendermonde.
The historic center in particular deserves praise: beautifully preserved statues, churches, a beguinage, the Belfry, which is recognized as a UNESCO world heritage site and of course the court - these are just a few examples of the historical wealth you will find here.
